TTA is pleased to announce that Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) will provide more than $176,000 to fund multiple high performance initiatives over the next two years.

In particular, investment will be provided to enable:
- Establishment/expansion of ongoing training environments in every State/Territory
- National Team to compete at the 2019 Commonwealth Championships in India
- National Team to compete at the 2020 ITTF World Team Championships in Korea
- National Team to compete at the 2019 ITTF-Oceania Cup
- National Team to compete at the 2020 ITTF-Oceania Championships
- National Junior Team to compete at the 2019 ITTF World Junior Championships in Thailand

Upon signing the Funding Agreement, TTA CEO Scott Houston stated ‘CGA have been a long-term and unwavering supporter of TTA and we’re thrilled to sign this new agreement. The funding provides surety around which competitions and initiatives we can target in the short-medium term, which will lay the foundation for our 2022 Commonwealth Games campaign. As we continue to build the National Team under new Head Coach John Murphy, CGA’s support will go a long way to ensuring that our preparation for the 2022 Commonwealth Games is maximised. TTA is appreciative of the ongoing investment that CGA provides’.

Commonwealth Games Australia CEO, Craig Phillips said the CGA was pleased to be able to support TTA and the athletes in the lead up to Birmingham.

'The funding is designed to complement rather than replace or replicate any other sources of funding such as via Sport Australia or the AIS, however in some sports where Olympic related funding is minimal, this funding provides a lifeline for athletes and the sport'.

'Between 1996 and 2018, CGA has provided in excess of $43 million to its members and athletes. The funding comes entirely from income from investments held in the Australian Commonwealth Games Foundation, sponsorship rights sales and fundraising activities and has been boosted by legacies of hosting home Games in Melbourne and now the Gold Coast,' Phillips said.

'Our 2016-2022 strategy is “Building Team Success” and this funding will help our sports and athletes in these crucial two years before the final lead in to Birmingham where our goal is to be the No.1 nation in both gold and overall medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. And for Table Tennis, the funding helps alleviate some of the financial costs for national team members to compete in crucial lead up events in 2019 and 2020, including the Commonwealth Championships in India,' Phillips said.

TTA thanks and acknowledges CGA as a major funding partner and looks forward to generating mutually beneficial outcomes through this Funding Agreement and beyond.
