2020 National Championships - COVID-19 Update
Published Thu 09 Jul 2020
As a result of increased numbers of cases of COVID-19 occurring in Melbourne, the Victorian government has stipulated that from 11:59pm on 8 July, changed gathering limits apply to the Melbourne metropolitan area and the Shire of Mitchell. This effectively means that playing community sport, including table tennis, is currently not possible in metropolitan Melbourne and the Shire of Mitchell. The Victorian Government have indicated that these measures will be in place for at least six weeks, however ongoing assessments will be undertaken to monitor the situation.
TTA is engaging in ongoing correspondence with medical and government authorities. Current advise received indicates that planning to run all 2020 National Championships in Traralgon in late November/early December can continue. TTA is comfortable and confident to follow the current advice provided. Moreover, TTA has submitted a COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Plan to the National COVID-19 Sport and Health Advisory Committee, the purpose of which is to ensure that all appropriate health and safety measures can be implemented during the events.
It is important to note that Australia is currently one of the safest countries globally and outside of the current spike in metropolitan Melbourne and the Shire of Mitchell, COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease around the country.
TTA will provide further updates in the coming weeks in relation to all 2020 National Championships.
