Published Thu 13 Nov 2025
Table Tennis Australia (TTA) is excited to announce that, after carefully reviewing 11 impressive applications, Yangzi Liu has been chosen as the 2026 Wu Family Foundation Scholarship Recipient, an incredible recognition of her talent, commitment, and Olympic ambitions!
With a current world ranking of No. 31 (as of Week 46, November 11 2025), Yangzi continues to demonstrate the elite performance standards that the Wu Family Foundation Scholarship is designed to nurture and celebrate. This prestigious annual scholarship aims to provide financial support for an elite national athlete to further advance their skills and strive for podium success in the lead-up to the 2028 Los Angeles and 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.
This new program, established through the generous support of the Wu Family Foundation, is designed to help Australia’s rising table tennis stars reach their full potential by providing dedicated support for training, competition, and development at the highest level.
“Yangzi stood out for her strong performance, clear international training plan, and professionalism. This scholarship is about giving an outstanding athlete the resources and opportunities to make their mark, and we can’t wait to see what she will achieve,”said Rob Gomm, General Manager - Olympic Program.
For Yangzi, this scholarship representsan important step toward achieving her ambitious goals; to attain a Top 10 world ranking, win a medal (preferably gold) at the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, and be a trend-setter for Australian youth in table tennis.
Expressing her gratitude, Yangzi shared, “I’m incredibly honoured and excited to receive the Wu Family Foundation Scholarship. This support means I can push harder on my international training and competition goals, and I’m ready to embrace the challenge ahead. My dream is not only to compete with the world’s best, but to inspire young Australians to believe that they can, too.”
Representing the Wu Family Foundation, Dr Johnny Wu, said; “Our family is passionate about supporting Table Tennis Australia and young Australians who demonstrate commitment, discipline, and vision, qualities that Yangzi embodies. Through this scholarship, we hope to empower athletes like her to pursue excellence, inspire others, and continue to elevate Australian table tennis on the world stage.”
The scholarship will provide backing for Yangzi’s high-performance journey, helping cover costs for international camps, travel, coaching, and competition exposure as she works toward representing Australia on the global stage.
Congratulations Yangzi; we’re all behind you! A heartfelt thank-you to the Wu Family Foundation for their generosity and vision in helping create new pathways for the next generation of Australian table tennis talent.
