Australia Wins Annual Trans-Tasman Veterans Test Match
Published Tue 23 Apr 2019
A courageous team of 36 players from across Australia beat New Zealand 32 to 28 in a close and hard fought contest in Taupo on Thursday 18th April. A number of the team were representing their country for the first time while others have been every time for nearly 20 years. While our ‘young guns’ fought valiantly, it was our older players who won the day. May they never die. As the end neared, the numbers were too close to call. It was our 0/60 Women who remained on the court. Despite losing 2/3 to NZ they had done enough to secure an Australian victory.
John Penberthy presented the Trans Tasman Cup on behalf of his brother Bruce who established the event. Our Test Match coordinator Jennifer Aduckiewicz accepted the trophy on behalf of the team and thanked New Zealand for organising the event, noting that it is always a pleasure to renew old friendships and test old rivalries.
