Bronze for Australia Women's Team as action continues at the 2026 Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships

Australia's Women's Team has picked up a bronze medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships, currently being held in New Delhi, India, with more medals up for grabs in the singles and doubles events.

The Women's Team, comprising Yangzi Liu, Minhyung Jee, Connie Psihogios and Jiamuwa Wu, won all three of their preliminary group-stage fixtures against England, Bangladesh and Cyprus before progressing to the Championship Groups, where they were drawn alongside hosts India, as well as Canada and Sri Lanka.

Wins over Canada and Sri Lanka saw the team progress to the semi-finals, where they faced Malaysia. In a five-match battle, it was Malaysia who progressed to the final, meaning Australia would take home the bronze medal.

Despite the result, there were wins for Yangzi Liu and Minhyung Jee, who defeated Ai Xin Tee and Li Sian Alice Chang respectively.

Malaysia faced hosts India in the Women's Team final, with the hosts claiming the gold medal.

In the Men's Team event, Australia also progressed to the Championship Groups after coming through their preliminary group, which included Namibia, South Africa, Maldives and Jamaica.

In the Championship Group, the Men's Team, made up of Aditya Sareen, Nicholas Lum, Xuqi Lin and Chulong Nie, were drawn against New Zealand, Singapore and hosts India.

Despite a comfortable 3-0 victory over New Zealand, with wins for Sareen, Lin and Nie, defeats to Singapore and India meant the team missed out on the top two and would therefore compete in the play-off for fifth place.

Facing Canada in the fifth-place decider, Lin, Lum and Sareen all recorded 3-0 victories to secure a fifth-place finish for the Men's Team.

Action in the singles and doubles events got underway on July 30, with four Australian mixed doubles pairs progressing to the Round of 32, which will take place on July 31.
