Hungarian Gold for Yangzi Liu

Yangzi Liu capped off a remarkable run of form in Europe by winning gold in the Under 19 Girls Singles at the World Table Tennis Youth Contender event in Hungary overnight. The win is Liu’s third Under 19 Girls Singles gold medal in as many weeks after previously winning in Italy and Slovak Republic.
Liu set up victory by overcoming top seeded Indian Swastika Ghosh in the qualification stage. She then proceeded through the draw without too many difficulties, until being severely tested in the final against Lakshita Narang (India). After going down 0-2, Liu dug deep and was able to mount a sensational comeback, winning the next three games to take the title 3-2.

Liu will now head to Slovenia where she will meet up with fellow National Squad Members Min Hyung Jee, Qian Yang, Dillon Chambers, Xavier Dixon, Finn Luu and Nicholas Lum for the World Table Tennis Contender event. After dominating junior events in recent times, Liu will relish the chance to perform at senior level.
