Oceania Hopes Selections Announced; A Bright Future Bound for Noumea

Published Fri 04 Jul 2025

Table Tennis Australia is thrilled to unveil the talented young athletes who will represent Australia at the 2025 ITTF-Oceania Hopes Week taking place 9 - 14 August, in Noumea, New Caledonia.

Following an inspiring display of determination and emerging talent at the 2025 National Hopes Week and Challenge, selections were made based on performance outcomes. The top two male and female athletes were automatically selected after reaching the finals. In the boys' category, this was determined through a traditional knockout final, while the girls were part of a pool, with the top two on the table qualifying directly.

Thanks to ITTF-Oceania, Table Tennis Australia was awarded two additional wildcard entries per gender, which have been allocated to the next-highest performers based on national results. In cases where athletes declined wildcards, selections continued down the final placements list.

Congratulations to the Selected Athletes:

Boys:

  1. Daniel Lin (QLD)

  1. Oscar Pan (NSW)

  1. Samuel Shwe (WA)

  1. Lucas Jin (VIC)

Girls:

  1. Lin Zhu (QLD)

  1. Alyssa Yueng (VIC)

  1. Nikitha Balram (WA)

  1. Lydia Tran (VIC)

(Please note: Ariel Li (VIC) and Angela Yuan (QLD) declined their placement)

After careful considerations the selections were based on performance at the 2025 National Hopes Challenge. The athletes chosen have demonstrated not only exceptional skill but also strong potential to develop within Australia’s high-performance system,” said Rob Gomm, TTA General Manager Olympic Program. “We wish them all the very best in Noumea—it’s a fantastic opportunity to test themselves against the best in Oceania.”

The team will be led by Melissa Tapper, stepping into her first international head coaching role as part of her ongoing development in the AIS Gen32 Scholarship Program. Melissa’s experience as an elite dual Paralympian-Olympian brings a unique perspective and inspiration to the squad, and we are so honoured to have her on board.

She’ll be joined by Assistant Coach Summer (Yitian Yin) from RTTC, a fast-rising coaching talent and accomplished senior player in her own right. Summer brings valuable experience, having worked with young stars including Daisy Xie, Oscar Pan, and Chelsea Hao, and has also claimed TTA Tour Titles in Geelong, Canberra, and Mandurah.

“I’m super excited about this training camp,” said Summer. “It’s my first time officially working with the national coaching team, and I can’t wait to support these young talents while learning and growing as a coach myself.”

Australia’s future in table tennis is shining bright. Good luck to our rising stars as they head to Noumea to take on the best of the region at the 2025 ITTF-Oceania Hopes Week, held from 9 – 14 August in Noumea, New Caledonia.
