Table Tennis Australia launches Girls Only Spinneroos program
Published Wed 09 Sep 2020
Young girls around the country are set to receive a huge boost to their sporting careers, with a new table tennis program specifically targeted at girls age 4-12.
Spinneroos is Table Tennis Australia’s (TTA) entry level program for children, and its new program has been devised to help young girls try table tennis in a safe environment, and provide an opportunity for them to further develop their self-confidence and potential.
With alarming statistics highlighting that that one in two girls drop of out of sport before the age of 15, and that less than half of all table tennis players in Australia are female, TTA wants to inspire young girls to take their talents as far as they possibly can.
“Spinneroos is the perfect way for kids of all ages to try a new sport and find a new passion. We’re particularly excited to launch the Girls’ Spinneroos program to help young females find a new outlet and a different way to get active,” said Table Tennis Australia Participation Coordinator Patrick Wuertz.
“Table Tennis is fun, inclusive and accessible to all Australians, and we believe young girls will be able to experience the positive social and physical benefits that table tennis has to offer through the program. Who knows, we may even find the next Michelle Bromley or Melissa Tapper!”
The Girls' Spinneroos program is the safest and easiest introductory program and gives young girls the chance to learn the basics, get active and express themselves in an inclusive environment.
The program will not only kick start a young girl’s passion for sport and table tennis, but she’ll experience the benefits of an active lifestyle, improve her hand/eye coordination, increase mobility and make new friends.
The girls' edition of the program has been developed with leading table tennis coaches around Australia to ensure kids have a lasting first impression of table tennis. With 100% female participation and female coaches leading the sessions, it is perfect for those looking to try table tennis for the first time.
Over eight weeks, girls will learn all the basic skills necessary to begin their new passion, and upon registration will receive:
- Personalised Spinneroos t-shirt
- Table Tennis Bat
- Table Tennis Balls
- Drawstring Bag
Locations for the Girls' Spinneroos program in 2020 include Adelaide, Townsville, and Canberra, with dates for the Victorian programs in Mornington and Tarneit to be announced early in 2021.
