Spinneroos program a hit in South Australian schools
Published Mon 23 Aug 2021
Table Tennis Australia Spinneroos program is proving to be an excellent winter choice for schools across the country, with academic institutions like the Hills Montessori school in South Australia registering positive engagement rates and great feedback from students, parents and staff.
Spinneroos, included in Sport Australia’s Sporting School program, introduces young children to the sport of table tennis through a progressive and fun range of lessons and activities.
Hills Montessori teacher Attila Nandori said taking part in the program was an excellent choice for his students particularly in this period of the year.
“Staff and parents have mentioned how excited the students are about coming to the table tennis sessions and the students have shown their excitement during each of the sessions. They enjoy participating in the games and focus hard on developing individual skills,” Nandori said.

The e-coaching resources made available by Table Tennis Australia provide teachers with an easy-to-follow guide to give their students the best table tennis experience in the absence of a specialised coach.
“The e-coaching resource is fantastic. The most useful aspect of the e-coaching resource was the simple diagrams and explanations showing how to make the same activity easier or harder depending on the ability of each group,” Nandori said.
The school has found the Spinneroos program is an accessible and engaging pathway into the sport for everyone. Nandori said the program is structured in a way that encourages participation at all ability levels.
“Students are not put on the spot to succeed or fail in front of each other. Rather they are given the opportunity to participate in modified games that assist with developing the relevant skills for table tennis,” he said.
Applications for Sporting School Term 4 grants are now open, with contributions between $1,000 and $3,600 (GST exclusive) available to primary schools for each term.
