TTA Announces Official Team Selection for the 2025 ITTF Mixed Team World Cup
Published Tue 30 Sep 2025
Get ready, Australia — the team is locked in and the stage is set!Table Tennis Australia is thrilled to announce the national team heading to Chengdu, China, for the ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2025, running from 30 November – 7 December 2025.
Australia has earned its place among the world’s best after being awarded the Continental quota place for Oceania, part of a 16-nation line-up determined by World Rankings and Continental representation. Now in its third edition since debuting in 2023, the Mixed Team World Cup is fast becoming one of the sport’s most dynamic and exciting global events.
This year's tournament carries extra significance, as Mixed Team Table Tennis will debut as a medal event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The World Cup serves as a key stepping stone for nations preparing to compete on the biggest stage in just under three years’ time.
The Mixed Team World Cup format is fast-paced and tactical: the first country to win eight (8) games secures the overall match. Each individual match is played over three games, and every single game contributes to the team’s cumulative total — meaning that every point matters from start to finish. The order of play adds another layer of strategic depth being; 1. Mixed Doubles, 2. Women’s Singles and 3. Men’s Singles. Followed by either,4. Women’s or Men’s Doubles* and then 5. the remaining Doubles*. *If the fourth and fifth matches are required, the order is chosen by the team captain of the lower-ranked team, allowing for key tactical decisions based on team strengths and momentum. This format encourages not only high-level skill but also adaptability and team cohesion, making for thrilling international table tennis.
Team selection was led by the National Selection Panel (NSP), with automatic qualification awarded to the top two athletes in both the Open Men’s and Open Women’s divisions, based on the Table Tennis Australia National Ranking List as of 31 August 2025. The remaining team members were selected by the NSP considering recent performance, team balance, and international competitiveness.
Selected Athletes:
Men's Team:
- Finn Luu
- Hwan Bae
- Nicholas Lum
Women’s Team:
- Yangzi Liu
- Constantina Psihogios

This is one of Australia’s strongest line-ups to date, with four of the six athletes currently ranked inside the Top 50 of the ITTF Men’s and Women’s Singles World Rankings (Week 39 as at the 23 September 2025).
Adding to the excitement is the inclusion of Yangzi Liu, who is now eligible to represent Australia at ITTF world events following a recent court ruling. Her presence strengthens the team and marks a major moment in her international playing career.
The team will be guided by National Head Coach Ricardo Oliveira, who brings experience and strategic leadership to the squad.
“Congratulations to all athletes on their selection — it’s a proud moment not just for the players, but for the entire Australian table tennis community,” said Rob Gomm, General Manager, Olympic Program. “This team represents an exciting mix of experience and rising talent, and we’re confident they’ll do Australia proud on the world stage in Chengdu. With LA 2028 on the horizon, events like this are critical in preparing our athletes for Olympic success.”
Table Tennis Australia congratulates all selected athletes and looks forward to an exciting and inspiring campaign at the 2025 ITTF Mixed Team World Cup.
