Table Tennis Australia Opens Expressions of Interest for Proposed China Development Camp

Published Wed 15 Jul 2026

Table Tennis Australia (TTA) is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from athletes, coaches and parents for a proposed high-performance development camp in Nanjing, China, scheduled for December 2026.

EXPRESS YOUR INTEREST HERE

The camp is currently being explored as part of TTA's ongoing commitment to providing Australian athletes and coaches with world-class international development opportunities. Expressions of Interest will help determine the viability of the program, with all plans subject to confirmation.

The camp is expected to be led by National Head Coach Ricardo Oliveira, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the tour. Oliveira has overseen important wins on the world stage for Australia this year, including an impressive performance from Team Australia at the ITTF World Teams Table Tennis Championships in London.

Joining Ricardo is TTA Team Manager Aaron Zhang, whose extensive knowledge of the Chinese table tennis system and experience supporting Australian athletes internationally will provide significant value throughout the camp.

Designed for athletes aged 13–19 years, the proposed camp would see participants train in one of the world's leading table tennis environments while travelling as part of a professionally managed TTA delegation.

The proposed tour would depart Australia on 12 December 2026 before returning from China on 22 December 2026, with training based at Nanjing Mili Sports, China.

Participants would gain first-hand experience of the professionalism, intensity and culture that have helped establish China as the world's premier table tennis nation

For athletes, the camp aims to improve technical development and training standards, expose participants to international high-performance environments, develop independence and self-management skills, and build a stronger understanding of the expectations required to succeed at the elite level.

The proposed program also includes dedicated opportunities for Australian coaches to enhance their own development by observing internationally recognised training systems, supporting and mentoring athletes throughout the tour, and bringing practical ideas back to clubs across Australia. The initiative would further strengthen connections between clubs and the national pathway while contributing to a shared coaching philosophy.

Parents of athletes who express an interest in the camp are also invited to register their interest in travelling with the group through a dedicated parent package.
