Table Tennis Australia (TTA) is excited to announce its athlete selections for the 2026 ITTF-Oceania Cup, marking the first major international event on the calendar and an important launchpad for the year ahead.

The prestigious event will be held on 31 January and 1 February 2026 in Christchurch, New Zealand, bringing together the region’s top-ranked athletes as they begin a new year of international competition.

On 28 October, TTA received official notification of Australia’s invitations to the event, based on the ITTF World Rankings list published on 28 October 2025. In line with ITTF-Oceania Event Regulations, Australia was allocated:

  • Two (2) Men’s Singles positions

  • Two (2) Women’s Singles positions

TTA’s selection philosophy focuses on identifying athletes capable of delivering medal-winning performances now and into the future at World Championships, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games, while also respecting direct qualification through world rankings and qualification finalists, and ensuring at least one purely objective selection pathway

For the 2026 ITTF-Oceania Cup, the TTA National Selection Panel awarded the positions to the top two male and female Australian athletes in the World Rankings at the time of the invitation.

As a result, the following athletes will represent Australia at the 2026 ITTF-Oceania Cup:

Women

  • Yangzi Liu (World Ranking #29)

  • Min Hyung Jee (World Ranking #46)

Men

  • Nicholas Lum (World Ranking #42)

  • Finn Luu (World Ranking #52)

Rob Gomm, TTA General Manager – Olympic Program, said the Oceania Cup was an exciting way to open what shapes as a significant year on the international stage.

“The ITTF-Oceania Cup is always a high-quality event, and it’s a fantastic way to kick off the 2026 international season,” Gomm said. “These athletes have earned their selection through consistent performances at the highest level, and we’re confident they’ll represent Australia strongly as the year of international competition begins.”

Table Tennis Australia CEO, Nicole Adamson added, “We’re thrilled to see our top athletes head into the 2026 season with such a prestigious event on the horizon. The Oceania Cup is a perfect opportunity to showcase Australian talent on the international stage, and we look forward to a year filled with achievement, growth, and inspiration for the sport across the country.”

TTA congratulates all selected athletes and looks forward to supporting them in Christchurch.
