WTT Youth Contender event & international training camps in Darwin Sept/Oct 2023

Published Fri 11 Aug 2023

World ranking points are up for grabs again in the Youth Contender Darwin event from 28th September to 1st October. With COVID no longer a barrier, more entrants are expected from Asia this year. This year’s event will also include mixed double for<15 and <19 years.

Last year, Australian players medalled in all events except <13 & <15 girls singles, winning Gold in <13 boys singles and Silver in <11, <13 and <19 boys singles.

The event will again be held in Marrara indoor Stadium, close to the airport and to the event hotels, Darwin Airport Mecure and Darwin Airport Novotel. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will all be sit-down meals at the hotel. A regular mini-bus shuttle service will transport players and officials between the hotels and the venue.

Show Table matches will be live-streamed through YouTube for the duration of the event and available through the WTT App.

The Tournament will be preceded by an international training camp, also in Marrara Indoor Stadium, for <13, <15 and <17 years. The priority focus for the camp is on Australia and SE Asia, with places offered to players ranked in in the top 20 (WR) in the first instance. It is expected that there will ultimately be a number of places available to Australian players.

The ITTF is also confusting the Oceania Hopes at Marrara Indoor Stadium from 3rd to 8th October. There are 20 places available, with the majority likely to be available for Australian <11s, as attendance from the Pacific is likely to be low.
