2018 TTA Calendar of Events Released
Published Fri 01 Dec 2017
TTA has released its Calendar of Events for 2018. It's going to be a jam packed year ahead full of national, continental and international events.
The Australian Qualification Tournament on the Gold Coast in January is first up in what will be a hectic year for our senior athletes. Other key events include the ITTF-Oceania Championships, ITTF-Oceania Cup, ITTF World Team Championships in Sweden, National Senior Championships, National Senior Top 10 and of course the jewel in the 2018 crown - the Commonwealth Games on home soil.
Our para athletes also have major benchmark events coming up. The World Para Individual Championships will take place in Slovenia in October, no doubt Sam von Einem and Melissa Tapper will have medals on their mind. Tapper will also be one of the favourites for the Para events at the Commonwealth Games. With the Australian Para Championships in Canberra and a host of State Para Camps it ensures it's all systems go.
Our junior athletes can look forward to the World Junior Championships in Bendigo in December. Having the opportunity to compete on the world level in your own backyard isn't something that comes along everyday, no doubt our youngsters will be training hard to not only make the team, but also knock off competitors from all over the world. The National Junior and Cadet Top 10, National Hopes Week, ITTF-Oceania Junior Championships and National Junior Championships also provide opportunities for success. Cook Islands will play host to the other major international event for our juniors when they host an ITTF World Junior Circuit event that includes a coveted ticket to the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.
Last but certainly not least, our veterans have the opportunity to take centre stage. The Australian Open Veterans Championships continues to go from strength to strength, Bendigo in October will play host next year. However, no doubt all veterans have their eyes on Sin City with the World Veterans Championships being held in Las Vegas in June.
