Australia Shines on the Global Stage in China
Published Thu 16 Oct 2025
Australian table tennis took another giant step forward at both the recent WTT China Smash (25 Sept - 5 October) and China Youth Smash (3 -5 October) 2025. Our team of 11 athletes delivered Australia’s best-ever performance at a WTT Smash event – a result that has us buzzing with pride and excitement for what’s ahead.
This success didn’t come out of nowhere. It followed on directly from the Table Tennis Australia China Training Camp, supported by the National Foundation for Australia–China Relations (NFACR)澳中基金会, where our athletes came together in Hebei and Beijing to sharpen their skills, strengthen team culture and embrace the challenge of competing against the world’s best. That foundation showed on court.
Highlights included:
- Yangzi Liu reaching the Quarter Finals in the Mixed Doubles with her partner Annett Kaufmann from Germany
- Nicholas Lum securing an impressive win against Ankur Bhattacharjee from India, in the men’s singles.
- A fantastic mixed doubles campaign from both Aditya Sareen, and Minhyung Jee, both posting big victories and proved Australia’s depth on the international stage.
- Nicholas Lum and Finn Luu pushing their world-class doubles opponents to the wire in a thrilling battle.
- Hwan Bae showing real grit and fighting spirit across his matches.
- Jiamuwa Wu showing her strength in the qualifying rounds.
And we weren't done yet! Following the WTT China Smash, five of our future champions then took part in the WTT China Youth Smash. Playing against the world’s best youth players, our team notched up 3 wins in the Group Stage between them, showing that there is plenty to look forward to in the years ahead. Congratulations to Constantina Psihogios, Kavyaa Madaan, Alice Xia, and Aradhya Dhingra for your performance in China!
Together, these results show the world that Australia is here to compete at the very top. Our players are standing tall on one of the sport’s biggest stages, and we couldn’t be more excited to carry this momentum into the 2026 WTT Smash season.
