Australian Junior & Cadet Open Attracts Strong Field of Juniors & Cadets
Published Wed 05 Apr 2017
Australia’s best junior and cadet table tennis players will gather at Tweed Heads in New South Wales from this weekend to contest the Australian Junior & Cadet Open, part of the ITTF World Junior Circuit.
Standing in their way will be athletes from Japan, New Zealand, Hong Kong and USA, with 42 competitors taking part.
All the top-ranked Australian players from last October’s National Junior and Cadet Top Ten will be in action during the four-day event.
The junior boys’ top three of Benjamin Gould, Rohan Dhooria and Bob Liang, and the junior girls trio of Holly Nicolas, Georgina Newton and Matilda Alexandersson will guarantee a hotly contested Australian Junior & Cadet Open.
In the cadet section, last October’s boys’ top three of Noah Kim, Nicholas Lum and Liem Luong, and successful girls’ trio of Michelle Wu, Sue Bin Oh and Parleen Kaur have all entered this weekend.
Joining the Australian competitors will be Japanese teenagers Naoya Kawakami and Shunsuke Tsukidate in the junior boys, Hong Kong’s Hon Man Li in the boys’ cadets, and New Zealanders Nathan Xu (cadets), Yanglun Zhao (boys’ juniors), Hui Ling Vong (girls’ juniors) and American Lavanya Maruthapandian, competing in the the girls’ cadets.
The Australian Junior & Cadet Open begins on Saturday at the Seagulls Club at Tweed Heads, and runs through until Tuesday.
