Fun Day For People With Disability - A Smashing Success
Published Fri 24 Feb 2017

Over 80 participants attended a Smash Down Barriers Table Tennis Fun Day at the Gold Coast Table Tennis Association on the 15th of February 2017.
The inclusive event was hosted by the Gold Coast Table Tennis Association and supported by the Australian Government under the Smash Down Barriers program. The event featured coaching from para players and coaches from the national teams of Thailand and Indonesia. Participants were treated to modified table tennis activities and games.
Numerous local disability groups including Gold Coast Rec & Sport, FSG, House With No Steps and Keystone attended the event, as well as students from Musgrave Hill State School.
Christian Holtz, Sport for Development Manager at Table Tennis Australia, was rapt with the turn-out at the Fun Day and in particular the way the visiting coaches interacted with the participants.
“This was a fantastic opportunity for the coaches and players from Thailand and Indonesia to learn how we in Australia use table tennis to promote the social inclusion of people with disabilities” said Holtz.
