National Volunteer Week Spotlight: Marie Pinkewich

Published Fri 23 May 2025

This National Volunteer Week, we are thrilled to shine a spotlight on Marie Pinkewich, a true legend in the world of Australian table tennis!

Marie’s unwavering dedication and passion for preserving the sport’s rich history have had a monumental impact. She has meticulously compiled and maintained historical records for TTA, TTNSW, and TTV, ensuring that honour rolls, rankings, team representatives, and countless archival documents are preserved for generations to come.

Her efforts have made these invaluable records publicly accessible, providing a treasure trove of information for the table tennis community.

Beyond her historical work, Marie has been an indispensable volunteer across all levels of the sport. Since 2021, she has compiled the TTNSW Annual Report and contributed to proofreading TTA Annual Reports. Her research skills and commitment to enhancing accessibility are evident in her extensive contributions to the National Library’s TROVE database, where she is a registered “Voluntrove” with over 300,000 lines of corrected text.

Her service spans more than four decades, including roles in club and tournament committees, team management, and six years on the TTA Board (2018–2023), including a term as Deputy President.

Marie’s volunteer work even extends to a major role as a technology volunteer at the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

As an International Umpire (Blue Badge, 2022) and qualified State Referee, Marie has officiated at top-tier events, including the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games and continued her role at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

Marie’s passion, dedication, and contributions have left an indelible mark on Australian table tennis and beyond. Her work continues to inspire all of us to give back, preserve history, and support the community.

Thank you, Marie, for your incredible service and for being a true ambassador for the sport!
