Nicholas Lum Adds Slovakian Gold to European Medal Haul

Nicholas Lum’s golden run of form continues, with the lethal lefty winning the Under 17 Boys Singles at the World Table Tennis Youth Contender event in Slovak Republic overnight. In a very strong field of 73 players, Lum won eight consecutive matches against players from seven countries to claim the title. It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Lum on his way to victory, winning two of his matches by the narrowest of margins in the fifth game, but he was able to win the crucial points when it mattered most. Then in the final, Lum snuffed out any hopes for his Brazilian opponent, winning in three straight games.
Over the past three weeks, Lum has claimed two gold and one silver medals at the World Table Tennis Youth Contender events in Italy, Hungary and Slovak Republic. Without doubt, Lum’s star is on the rise and he continues to demonstrate his genuine international competitiveness.

Finn Luu was also in action in Slovak Republic, however after navigating his way through a tough qualification stage, he eventually succumbed in the round of 32 to Zhenlong Liu (Austria).
Both Lum and Luu are back in action tonight Australian time as the Under 19 Boys Singles main draw kicks off, with both already winning their way through the qualification stage.

WORLD TABLE TENNIS YOUTH CONTENDER HUNGARY
Yangzi Liu hit the tables overnight in Hungary, winning her way through the qualification stage, including beating top seed Swastika Ghosh (India) in a superb display. Liu will be looking to continue her strong form as the main draw kicks off tonight Australian time. Full rersults are available by clicking here.
WORLD TABLE TENNIS CONTENDER SLOVENIA
Dillon Chambers and Qian Yang enjoyed a strong outing in the Mixed Doubles event in Slovenia, making the quarter finals. After defeating Tilen Cvetko and Lea Paulin (Slovenia) in the opening round, they went down to the strong Indian pairing of Archana Girish and Manav Vikash.
