Table Tennis Australia Launches Pathway to the Podium Olympic32 Wu Family Foundation Scholarship to Power Australia’s Next Generation of Olympians

Table Tennis Australia (TTA) is delighted to unveil the Olympic32 Wu Family Foundation Scholarship, a cornerstone initiative under the recently introduced Pathway to the Podium philanthropic program. Made possible thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the Dr Johnny Wu and Dr Tze Lai Family Foundation, this scholarship will help shape the future of Australia’s table tennis talent.

The multi-year scholarship will directly support one emerging athlete each year. Recipients will receive funding to pursue international training and competition opportunities, fostering the development of Australia’s finest young table tennis players as they prepare to make their mark on the global stage, including the upcoming Olympic Games.

Professor Johnny Wu and Professor Tze Lai, respected ophthalmic surgeons and philanthropists, founded the family foundation to foster excellence across education, medical research, and sport. With their daughters actively competing at national and international levels, the Wu family has seen first-hand the importance of supporting table tennis athletes early in their journey.

TTA CEO, Nicole Adamson, emphasised the broader significance of the partnership: “This scholarship represents the type of visionary support that can truly transform our sport. We are deeply grateful to the Wu Family Foundation and encourage other philanthropists to join us in creating long-term opportunities for our Australian Table Tennis athletes.”

The Olympic32 Wu Family Foundation Scholarship forms part of TTA’s wider Olympic32 Program, designed to give Australian athletes the best possible preparation for a home Games in Brisbane. With table tennis a sport of choice across many of Australia’s migrant communities, the program also highlights the role of philanthropy in uniting cultures and creating pathways to success.

“We are honoured to launch this scholarship, through the Wu Family Foundation – an affirmation of our enduring belief in the power of giving back to promote health, education, and sporting brilliance amongst our future generations. We warmly invite the community to rally behind Table Tennis Australia’s philanthropic program. By supporting this and other TTA initiatives, we are not only nurturing athletic potential, but also the leadership, resilience, and bright futures, these rising athletes embody”, said Professor Johnny Wu, Director of the Wu Family Foundation.

Scholarship recipients will be selected annually based on their performance potential, development impact, professionalism, and a clear international training plan. With applications now open and closing 5th October 2025, the first recipient will be named in November 2025.
