Register for World Table Tennis Day 2021 and support #GenderEquality
Published Thu 11 Feb 2021
World Table Tennis Day is celebrated annually on the 6th April, with the objective of promoting social inclusion and uniting people through table tennis. In 2021 the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Foundation is also tackling delicate issues related to gender equality and female empowerment, in a bid to increase participation of girls and women in the sport.
Once again in 2021 World Table Tennis Day will be celebrated in different ways around the world, with people coming together through a combination of socially-distanced and online events. Despite the limitations imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of table tennis players from 171 countries gathered virtually last year to show their passion for the sport and their support for meaningful social change.
The ITTF Foundation is hoping to top that number in 2021, in what will be a special day for the table tennis community. Table Tennis Australia CEO Scott Houston said that he trusts clubs and associations across Australia will register for the celebrations and play their part in promoting the message that sport can contribute significantly to achieving gender equality.
“Table tennis is an inclusive sport, but internationally we still see a lower participation rate of women and girls. We want to address this issue together, ensuring that we achieve equal representation and make our sport truly accessible for all,” Houston said.
“World Table Tennis Day is also an opportunity to promote the fact that our clubs and associations are safe environments where women of all ages can find a welcoming and supporting community and feel free to express themselves, whether they are looking for a competitive opportunity or just to establish meaningful social connections, be healthy and have fun,” added Egon Loh, Table Tennis Australia National Manager for Participation and Development.
Clubs and associations can find more information on the ITTF Foundation website, or register their event directly at https://ittffoundation.org/2021-WTTD-registration.
Table Tennis Australia will donate 20 free bats to the first six affiliated clubs and/or associations that register an event for World Table Tennis Day. Please get in touch with Table Tennis Australia once you have completed your registration on the ITTF Foundation website.
