Stephanie Sang is inspiring mum’s and setting an example for her kids
Published Sun 09 May 2021
As families around the country are preparing to celebrate their mother’s, Olympic athlete Stephanie Sang is looking forward to spending the day with her two children.
Stephanie is making her return to the Olympics after taking ten years off to become a mum and to focus on raising her children.
“It is very hard to balance, I try to finish work early so I can head to training. Some of those days I don’t get to see my kids because by the time I get home it is 9pm,” she said.
Stephanie wanted to inspire her kids and show them that if they set a goal they can achieve it through a lot of hard work.
“For a sports person who stopped playing for 10 years and is now over 30, to qualify for the Olympics is a moment I am very proud of,” she said.

After she first qualified for the Tokyo Olympics the family booked their flights and accommodation but all those plans have had to change now, but Stephanie said her children are still excited to watch her the matches on the TV.
“After I qualified, they told their whole school even their principal and teachers are aware, which really cements my decision to come back from retirement,” Stephanie said.
About a year ago she started teaching her two kids how to play table tennis and it is how they spend some of their time together.
“They train most days at home. This year I sent them to the National Hopes Week and Challenge at Loops Table Tennis. I think they were good but they still have lots to learn,” Stephanie said.
Stephanie said that mothers are an inspiration to each other because they are all juggling different commitments, whether it be returning to international competition or following their creative dream. To Stephanie and all the amazing mothers in our table tennis community we wish you an amazing day.
