The countdown to the TTA Tour is on
Published Sat 15 May 2021
With two weeks until the inaugural TTA Tour begins, athletes are excited to be returning to competition.
After events stopped across the country last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this newly established tournament aims to provide an opportunity for all athletes to compete at a national level. The tour will take place across two weekends and two capital cities, with the first stop in Sydney (29-30 May) and the second in Melbourne (5-6 June).
National Squad members Finn Luu, Yangzi Liu, Hwan Bae and Nicholas Lum are all excited to be returning to competition and having the opportunity to test their skills against Australia’s top ranked athletes, including Michelle Bromley and Chris Yan who have already been selected for the Tokyo Olympics.
“I am really excited to be participating and playing against the best in Australia. I am really looking forward to being back in the national level environment and atmosphere of the competition,” Hwan Bae said.
“We haven’t had any opportunities to play in national tournaments over the past year, so the TTA Tour will help us to prepare for international competitions,” Yangzi Liu said.
After so much training - some conducted at home, during the peak of the pandemic - the Tour will finally allow the athletes to showcase their skills and benchmark their level of preparation.
“I haven’t played many tournaments over the past year, so I am really looking forward to competing and testing my skills against all the Australian top players who are going to be taking part in the events,” Finn Luu said.
The TTA Tour is open to any player registered (at the highest level) with a State/Territory Association and provides a new opportunity for national squad members and non-national squad members to compete.
“It allows non-national squad members to showcase their skills and try and get the National Coaches attention and I think that is really important in providing support to the talent identification pathways,” Nicholas Lum said.
The TTA Tour will be live streamed on the TTA Facebook page thanks to our Official Broadcast Partner, My Sport Live.
