TTA Shines at Paralympics Australia Awards
Published Fri 10 Jun 2022
The Paralympics Australia Awards were held last night in Sydney, with TTA featuring prominently throughout.
Our silver medal winning Class 9-10 Women’s Paralympic Team of Qian Yang, Lina Lei and Melissa Tapper were awarded the Team of the Year Award, coming out on top over teams from swimming and goalball. Moreover, National Squad Member and Tokyo Paralympic Team Co-Captain Danni Di Toro was presented the prestigious President’s Award for respect, honour and integrity.
Paralympic champion Qian Yang was also a finalist in the Female Athlete of the Year category and mastermind coach Alois Rosario was a finalist in the Coach of the Year category.
The awards and nominations eventuated on the back of a record breaking Tokyo Paralympics campaign, where our team won six medals (2 gold, 4 silver) and finished second on the table tennis medal tally, only behind China.
TTA CEO Scott Houston commented, “TTA are so proud of our Para Program and all their achievements. The program is genuinely world class and the results in Tokyo were the culmination of many years of hard work and having the right people in the right seats at the right time.
“The program is expertly led by Sue Stevenson and Alois Rosario, with ample support from Maggie Meng, Kara Retford and a host of specialists, including our secret weapon Ross Pinder whose video analysis skills make all the difference. And of course, our team of tight-knit athletes who work so hard and sacrifice so much for the betterment of the sport.
“I am so pleased that the team and the program have been recognised through the Paralympics Australia Awards. Thank you also to Paralympics Australia, our long-term and trusted partner who have seen our program evolve from its infancy to where it is today”.
