Vale Rebecca Hurst
Published Wed 21 Aug 2019
The Table Tennis community is saddened to learn that former top Queensland player, Rebecca Hurst, passed away last Friday; at the age of 42.
Rebecca was a top Queensland Junior & Youth player in the 1990's. She sustained a very serious knee injury during a period where she was starting to push many of the State's top players; and this contributed to severe and prolonged bouts of pain through the subsequent years; preventing her returning to play the sport she greatly loved. She also developed heart problems more recently.
She will be greatly missed by her family: Father (Lionel; who was also a well known Veteran player for several decades); brothers (Jon and Nathan; the latter a former Queensland Junior representative); sister (Emma) and partner (Jason) and Rebecca's four children (Caleb, Trinitia, Nicholas and Destiny).
Those who knew Rebecca will remember her as a fun-loving table tennis player of great skill who became Queensland Number 1 in her age group; mainly while representing the Wynnum Table Tennis Association for many years. She was recognised as an outstanding Indigenous athlete who made many friends in the sport, all over Australia and New Zealand.
